The Mendham Family (1968-2020)
Celebrating 52 Years!
Time Flies when you’re having fun as 2019 marks the 52nd year for the Mendham family at Sunrise Lodge. In 1968., Dick ad Elsie decided to prove to their friends that they were truly crazy by purchasing a resort way up north. One rainy day on a fishing trip, they decided to call the Northwoods and Sunrise Lodge home. The Mendham family is truly blessed and forever grateful for the many friendships developed over the years.
While Dick and Elsie are getting older they can still work circles around the rest of us. Dick is still doing well after his 2011 kidney transplant. He is extremely active in local Chambers of Commerce, organizing local festivals such as Maple Syrup Fest and Taste of Conover, as well as planting thousands of flowers and vegetables around the Sunrise grounds and gardens. Elsie works the front desk and dining room and when not working stays busy with church, choir, grandkids, and local charities.
Phil, graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a degree in Management and Marketing. Phil works in the front of the house and attempts to keep everything running smoothly. In his free time, he is the President of the Frosty Snowmobile Club and is active in the Lac Vieux Desert Association and enjoys snowmobiling and fishing. Phil’s wife, Karen, is from Wauwatosa and is the children’s librarian in Land O’ Lakes. She is the crafty one around Sunrise. Kate, 23, is a Bradley University graduate and is attending law school at St. Thomas in Minneapolis. Kate enjoys sports, cooking, and traveling when time allows her to do so. David, 21, is a junior at Bradley University in Peoria, IL, studying business and marketing analytics. He is on the deans list, a member of D.U. Fraternity, and is on the club soccer team. Joe, 19, is attending Northern Michigan University studying entrepreneurship. He likes to play basketball and snowmobile.
Linda, a graduate of UW-Stout, is responsible for all the delicious food at Sunrise. Without Linda, Sunrise would not be such a yummy place! When not working, Linda likes sports and visiting warm places. Alexa, 21, is a senior studying Communications with a Sports emphasis, at UW-Green Bay. She enjoys playing intramural sports, snowboarding and snowmobiling in her free time. Carl and Tony, 19, both sophomores, attending UW-Green Bay. They both love to fish and play sports when they can.
Vicki has her Master’s degree in Hotel Restaurant Management from UW-Stout and is the head of the Culinary Arts program at Nicolet College. Vicki is truly the “Dessert Master” and helps around Sunrise when time permits. Kayla, 17, is a senior at Northland Pines. She is on the National Honors Society and is an accomplished figure skater and enjoys theatre.
We have been fortunate to be able to work and play as a family and we think of you as part of our family as well. We look forward to seeing you in our 53rd year.
